Why "Compressor Running" Doesn't Mean "Cooling Working"
It's a natural assumption: if you can hear the compressor running, the fridge should be cooling. But a refrigerator's cooling cycle depends on several components working together in sequence โ compressor, fan, damper, defrost system, and the control board that coordinates all of them.
The PCB (printed circuit board) reads temperature sensors and controls relays that direct power to the right components at the right time. If a relay or sensor circuit on the board fails, the compressor can run continuously without actually cooling effectively โ because the rest of the cooling cycle isn't being triggered correctly.
Common PCB-Related Causes
Burnt Relay on the Board
A relay that controls compressor cycling or fan operation can burn out from electrical stress over time.
Temperature Sensor Circuit Fault
If the board isn't reading sensor data correctly, it won't trigger cooling adjustments properly.
Damaged Board Tracks
Moisture or power fluctuations can damage the fine copper tracks on the board over time.
Capacitor Failure on Board
A failed capacitor can disrupt the board's ability to send consistent signals.
Firmware/Control Logic Glitch
Less common โ some smart Samsung models can have control logic issues correctable with a reset.
What a Proper Diagnosis Looks Like
Before assuming a full board replacement is needed:
- Confirm the compressor and fan are both actually functioning correctly first
- Check whether temperature sensors are reading correctly using diagnostic tools
- Visually and electrically inspect the board for burnt relays, damaged tracks, or swollen capacitors
- Attempt a chip-level repair (replacing just the faulty relay or capacitor) before considering a full board swap
Compressor Running But Fridge Not Cooling?
Same-day diagnosis across Mumbai โ we check the full cooling cycle and the board before quoting any replacement.
Is This Safe to Check Yourself?
Unlike a filter or hose check, PCB diagnosis involves handling live electrical components and requires proper test equipment to isolate the actual fault. We don't recommend opening the control board panel yourself โ misdiagnosis here often leads to replacing parts that weren't actually faulty.
Is This Covered Under Warranty?
If your Samsung fridge is still under company warranty, a PCB fault is typically a straightforward warranty claim. If the warranty has expired, an independent chip-level repair is usually significantly cheaper than a full board replacement through official channels.
